Chemscreen is a mesh that can be used to add strength to a vinyl repair. If the repair is on a surface that will hold a lot of weight (ex. seat or armrest), then you will want to add Chemscreen. So, how do you do that?
- Clean with a waterborne cleaner (ex. XXX Universal Cleaner or SEM Soap) and prep (ex. Vinyl Prep) your surface.
- Cut your backing fabric 1/8" bigger than your repair and put it under the cut/hole shiny side up.
- Use heat along the edges to adhere it.
- Add a thin layer of vinyl compound (ex. Vinyl Hyde).
- Cut your Chemscreen to the size of your repair and put it on top of your compound.
- Add another thin layer of compound on top of the Chemscreen.
- Use heat to cure the compound then impress a grain.
- Keep adding layers of compound, curing and impressing a grain, until the repair is level to the original surface.
